Hard sound punk/hardcore/harder-indie vinyl show on Gulls Window Circus. The show goes as far back as BOA’s 1974 Martha & The Vandellas cover and as recent as the Strange Club Records ‘Secret Futures’ comp, the Big Flame ‘Peel Sessions 84-86’ 10″, and the debut 7″ by Boston band Out Of The Blue (doing a Wipers cover). The idea for this show started with a re-evaluation of 7 Seconds ‘New Wind’ and Uniform Choice ‘Staring Into The Sun’ LPs (both at-the-time not particularly appreciated), then blossomed into a collection of tracks I though fit well with those records. You will also hear late-period Forgotten Rebels (’86 LP ‘The Pride And The Disgrace’), Big Boys doing a Kool & The Gang cover, Eighth Route Army’s final 7″ ‘Jesus DeMilo’ from 1988, The Nuns with a 1977 demo version of ‘Suicide Child’ that is way different than the version you know, and 2 tracks by the Dictators’s Scott Kempner band Del-Lords.

A rock vinyl Gulls Window Circus show stuffed with recent releases, reissues, and RSD records. The unreleased Pavlov’s Dog 3rd LP found a recent release, The Public Image ‘First Issue’ RSD release doesn’t say it, but it has a completely different mix that was intended as the US release but never came out. There are four records that are not recent releases, reissues, or RSD: The Boston 1980 Bound & Gagged 12″ which I had been seeking for ages, a 1983 track by Gleaming Spires (who included Sparks members that stayed in L.A. when the Mael brothers moved overseas), a 1975 David Werner track, and The Twenty-Seven 7″ from 1979 (not related to the Boston band 27). Many treats in today’s show – engage and enjoy.

A vinyl rock Gulls Window Circus show with new newest releases from long established artists [Brian Eno, Witch, Mekons, Bob Mould, X, John Cale], and recent reissues that I really like [Salty Dog, Cluster, Henry Badowski, Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan, Cornflake Zoo, Chrissy Zebby Tembo & Ngozi Family, Hindu Love Gods, Johnny Dowd, Talk Talk], and some dig-beneath-the-surface finds such as Fraternity (Bon Scott’s first band), Jeff Bridges (the actor also plays), and Empire (Bob Andrews and Mark Laff from Generation X, self-releasing what would have been LP #2). Plus, the Ithaca NY artist Park Doing and the recent Drag City 10″ by David Eugene Edwards (Sixteen Horsepower) & Al Cisneros.

LP tracks spun in real time comprise this week’s Gulls Window Circus show. There are two 7″ snuck in (Barbara Manning and The Male Nurse) because I just couldn’t wait to play them on air. There are two John Braheny tracks, because this Riding Easy (the label that does the Brown Acid series) LP reissue bravely goes beyond the label’s established sound. Speaking of ‘beyond their established sound’, check out the Bryan Ferry/Amelia Barratt collaboration. Rock Workshop is the first appearance of Alex Harvey, so fans of The Alex Harvey Band take note. Rain Parade has come back strong with several recent LPs. Today we hear a catchy track from their newest release, a 12″. Speaking of catchy, Peter Holsapple’s LP has a few, including the track you hear today. Where can you hear The Mommyheads paired with Pulp? Here, of course. In the diggin’ deep category, listen to John Howard and Hardware tracks. This is some (not all) of the highlights for today, hope you enjoy.

This week Gulls Window Circus is a CD-only show that brings up forgotten discs that bubbled back into my attention such as Iggy Pop’s forgotten 2001 record ‘Beat Em Up’, the 1994 Florida band Meringue (and the winning current FL band The Stargazer Lilies that always have my attention), the 2007 CD from French artist Don Cavalli, a 1996 Postcard Records CD single by Paul Quinn & The Independent Group, roots pub rock band Chilli Willi And The Red Hot Peppers, SF bands The Ferocious Few (2010) and Hugh (1995), 1993 NYC band Baby Tooth after changing their name from Fluffy, 2015 Staten Island band Kerbivore and lots more.

Today’s Gulls Window Circus CD-only show has a one- off feature: Each of the two hours have the exact same artists in the exact same order, with different songs in each hour. So you get two views off each artist’s sound. I frequently wonder about how certain song choices present artists in a way that highlights what is an unusual sound for them. This week really doesn’t address that concern, it just gives you 2 songs I like a lot from each. You will hear The Mommyheads, The Hepburns, Saint Etienne ‎, Pulp, Anthony Rochester, Garlands, Holiday, The Honey Pot, The Saints, Dr. John, The Night Tripper, Paul Haig, Mia Doi Todd, Rachel Stamp, Hussy, Black Bananas, The Lookout Honeys.

Week five of seven in the Gulls Window Circus New England series. This is a CD-only show, with some aha moments as tracks I haven’t heard in some time resurface to bring joy. It feels like a town hall meeting to me, as I have personal history with so many of todays artists, and know that you will find a lot of songs to love in this 2 part seaside hike. Firecat = Tim Sprague of Crow Follow, The Glass Set = Leah Callahan of Turkish Delight/Betwixt and Allan Esser of Primitive Romance, Heavy Stud = Meredith Byam of Poor Little Rich Girl (consignment store), I Love You = Paul Rechsteiner of Pie, Karacter & Lifestyle = Sean Drinkwater of Veronica Black Morpheus Nipple and Freezepop, Kudgel = Mark Erdody and Matt Nicholas of Black Helicopter, The Lune = Jeff Goddard of Karate and Mark Romano of Highland Kitchen (Somerville restaurant), Miskatonic = Paul Wisner of Ghosts and Shadows, The Moving Parts = Erik Lindgren and 2 members of MOB (Clint Conley and Roger Miller). Not at all complete, but a taste of the interconnections in today’s show.
