Today’s Gulls Window Circus CD-only show has a one- off feature: Each of the two hours have the exact same artists in the exact same order, with different songs in each hour. So you get two views off each artist’s sound. I frequently wonder about how certain song choices present artists in a way that highlights what is an unusual sound for them. This week really doesn’t address that concern, it just gives you 2 songs I like a lot from each. You will hear The Mommyheads, The Hepburns, Saint Etienne ‎, Pulp, Anthony Rochester, Garlands, Holiday, The Honey Pot, The Saints, Dr. John, The Night Tripper, Paul Haig, Mia Doi Todd, Rachel Stamp, Hussy, Black Bananas, The Lookout Honeys.

The third installment of the Doubled series – a rock/progs how with two side-by-side LP tracks from each artist, all LP tracks played on a real turntable in real time. The first hour is all prog, though you might not think of Pere Abu in that way, but they fit in with Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett, Daevid Allen’s Parisian band Gong, and Heidelberg, Germany’s Guru Guru. The second hour is clearly rock (not prog), with curiosities such as the post-Ian Hunter Mott, Lothar And The Hand People before they started using theremin, the on-off LA band The Zoo and post-Rozz Williams Christian Death.

A new Gulls Window Circus series ‘Doubled’ – two side-by-side LP tracks from each artist, all LP tracks played on a real turntable in real time. I have professed a desire to play 2 tracks from artists in the past. 1988 seems to be ground zero for many of the tracks that get doubled today – Band Of Outsiders, The Jazz Butcher, The Godfathers, The Buck Pets, Close Lobsters, The Wonder Stuff, The Railway Children, The Ophelias. I think you will either wonder how they passed you by, or revel in sounds you used to love. Special tip: hear The Railway Children, Guadalcanal Diary, Close Lobsters, The Godfathers and The Jazz Butcher tracks.
